In the body
- Exhaustion that sleep does not fix
- Catching every bug going around
- Tension headaches and a tight jaw
- Running on caffeine
You rested and you are still exhausted. Burnout is not a fuel problem, so more sleep will not fix it. Burnout therapy works with the patterns underneath the depletion, the ones rest alone cannot reach.

Burnout is what happens when chronic stress goes unmanaged for too long. It shows up as exhaustion sleep does not repair, a growing cynicism about work that used to matter, and a quiet sense that you are no longer as effective as you were. It is a signal, not a weakness.
Many people I see for burnout are capable, conscientious, and the ones others rely on. That is exactly the profile that burns out. If a holiday helped for a few days and then the tiredness returned, the exhaustion was never asking for a better holiday. It was asking for a different relationship between you and your work.
Burnout speaks through the body, the feelings, and the shape of your days.
Rest is necessary but not sufficient. We work on what the holiday could not reach.
We start with the nervous system and the depletion in the body. A system in survival cannot rest on command; it needs a felt experience of safety first.
Using parts work (IFS), we meet the part that cannot put the laptop down, the one that learned worth had to be earned. Burnout eases when it feels understood instead of overridden.
Drawing on Maslach and Leiter's research, we locate where the fit with your work has broken down, from workload to values, because each mismatch calls for a different repair.

No. Tiredness responds to rest; burnout does not. If you have slept, taken leave, and still feel depleted, that is the tell. Burnout is not a fuel problem, which is why more rest alone does not fix it.
Because a holiday rests the worker but changes nothing about the conditions that drained them. You return, better slept, to the same workload, the same lack of control, or the same values conflict. Recovery works on those, not just on sleep.
They overlap and can feel similar, but burnout is tethered to work and usually eases with real change, while depression follows you into things you love. If the flatness has gone global, it is worth exploring depression too, and there is a dedicated depression therapy page for that.
Not always. Many people recover while staying, by renegotiating workload and reclaiming control and boundaries. Sometimes a values mismatch runs deep enough that an exit becomes part of the answer, and knowing that early is kinder than discovering it after two more depleted years.
It depends on how long the depletion has run and how much is held in place by patterns like perfectionism. Some people feel meaningful shifts within a couple of months. We review together and you stay in control of the pace.
